Job Description:

The Ministry of Communications, Department of Posts, Government of India is inviting online applications from eligible candidates for the position of Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS). The engagement is for the roles of Branch Postmaster (BPM) and Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) in Branch Post Offices created in 2023. The selected candidates will be responsible for various postal operations, marketing and promotion of departmental products and services, and providing customer services. The detailed job profile is given below.

Job Profile and Responsibilities:

1. Branch Postmaster (BPM):

- Handling day-to-day postal operations of the Branch Post Office (B.O) and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) as per departmental guidelines.

- Marketing and promoting departmental products and services in Customer Services' Centers (CSC).

- Ensuring smooth and timely functioning of the office, including mail conveyance and delivery.

- In the absence of Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), performing combined duties.

- Accommodation: Selected candidates must provide accommodation for the Branch Post Office before engagement. The accommodation should meet the standards prescribed by the Directorate.

2. Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM):

- Selling stamps and stationery, delivering mail at doorstep, and handling mail exchange with the account office.

- Assisting Branch Postmaster (BPM) in postal operations as per departmental guidelines.

- Marketing and promoting departmental products and services in Customer Services' Centers (CSC).

- Performing combined duties of BPM as and when required.

- Residence: ABPMs are required to reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Post Office.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Age Limits:

- Minimum age: 18 years

- Maximum age: 40 years (Relaxation applicable as per government rules)

2. Educational Qualification:

- Secondary School Examination pass certificate of 10th standard from a recognized board.

- Compulsory knowledge of Mathematics and English.

- Knowledge of the local language up to the secondary standard.

3. Other Qualifications:

- Knowledge of computer operations.

- Proficiency in cycling.

- Adequate means of livelihood.

Selection Criteria:

- Shortlisting of applicants based on a system-generated merit list.

- Merit list prepared based on marks obtained in the 10th standard examination.

- Tie-breaking criteria based on age and other categories as per government rules.
