Overview:
PowerSchool is seeking a Software Engineering Intern to join our team. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to apply systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable approaches to software development, maintenance, and operation. You will work on designing, developing, testing, and evaluating our software systems, as well as enhancing the tools and processes needed to support them. This internship will provide valuable hands-on experience and an opportunity to contribute to real-world projects.
Responsibilities:
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Software Engineering Intern include:
- Investigating and resolving issues reported for a large web application, adhering to best practices and standards.
- Analyzing performance and implementing improvements to enhance the web application's performance.
- Assisting with security updates for the web application.
- Upgrading 3rd party libraries and tools used by the web application.
- Contributing to the implementation of new features and products, following best practices and established patterns.
- Specializing in either client or server-side web application development as part of a project team.
- Developing software to support internal initiatives, tools, and update frameworks and application functionality.
- Collaborating as part of an Agile SCRUM team in planning, scoping, estimating, and executing technical solutions.
- Working with a wide range of code and technologies, including both new and legacy systems.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The qualifications for the Software Engineering Intern position include:
- Motivated and willing to learn, as this is an entry-level position.
- Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science or information technologies.
- Some knowledge of web client technologies, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and client MVC.
- Basic understanding of Java, Spring (IoC), Hibernate, JPA, JAX-RS, and/or .NET.
- Familiarity with SQL and Oracle is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with software design principles and concepts, including patterns, algorithms, data structures, and more.
- Capacity to handle a heavy workload with multiple projects and frequent interruptions.
- Adaptability to work in a changing and dynamic environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasional lifting/carrying of items weighing under 10 lbs.
- Rare lifting/carrying of items weighing between 11-20 lbs.
- Occasional twisting/turning, reaching, bending, and walking.
- Constant sitting and use of the keyboard.
